6. Research
6. ResearchUndertake research on a particular robot project ( e.g. Mars Exploration project). Write a report on this project, including things such as describing how the robot works, what tasks it performs; how the sensors and actuators work. Also discuss issues such as how important the project is, what the project aims to achieve and whether there is an ethical concern with the introduction of this robot. (Other examples are robots for medical reasons, Nanorobots, or any new development in the field of Robotics)
Mars Exploration Project.
The robot is very safisticated, it is battery powerd and it can withstand high pressures. The robot records all the time and its designed to pick up samples from mars and bring them back to earth for testing, it moves or tracks and has claw like hands. It has a storage container to keep its findings and it has the camera up top so that we can look at what its looking at from here. The project is important because this can help us determine whether there is really life on mars, it can help as decifer whether or not an organism would be able to survive in these conditions. The robot has tracks like on a tank, so that it can move through any material and wont get damaged or anything. The robot has sensors all over it, this is to ensure that the robot doesnt run into anything because they cant afford for the robot to get damaged in any way. It needs to be able to know its surroundings. The ethical concern with this robot is that its very human like and people argue that humans are trying to play god by creating these robots.
5. Parts of a Robot
a. Access the following website and write down the 5 main parts of a robot and give an explanation on each, including what specific function does the part perform, what does this allow the robot to do?
b. Write down the 6 degrees of freedom.
a.Controller: Every robot is programmed from a computer, and this tells the robot what to do when you do something to it, like pushing a button to make it walk.
Arm: The arm is the part of a robot that is programmed to do something when you activate it. Like to grab something.
Drive: The drive is the engine, the fuel for the robot.
End Effecter: The end effected is the like the hand on the arm, it can be anything that helps it do its job.
Sensor: The sensor gives the robot control over its situation, it lets it know what its surrounding are and what to do with them.
The Six Degrees Of Freedom are
1. Pivot Base of arm
2. Rotate base of arm
3. Bend elbow
4. Wrist up and down
5. Rotate wrist
6. Wrist left right
4. Types of Robots.
Write a report about the use of TWO clearly different types of robots in TWO clearly different situations. Make sure you fully cite and reference all your sources. For each of the four case studies identify which of the five parts of a typical robot is the most important for the specific scenario.

The use of this robot, is for it to vacuum your house with you only having to push a button. By itself it can vacuum a whole room and wont miss a spot and you wont have to do a thing.
For this robot out of the 5 parts of a typical robot, the most important for this one in this scenario is its sensor and control, because the robot needs to sense where to move around in the house and not to bump into things. And it needs to be able to move in a way to reach all spaces.
The Robosapian is a really safisticated robot which people can programe it to do things and it can do its own thing aswell. You control it by remote control and its the closest cheapest thing you will get 2 a human robot.
For this robot its control is very important because you need to program it and use a remote to make it do what you want.

3. Purpose and Use of Robots
3. Purpose and Use of RobotsRobots can be classified in many ways. One approach classifies robots into two types: Industrial robots and Domestic robots.
Industrial robots are used in the manufacturing process.
Domestic robots are designed to be used in the home or for entertainment.a. Find with appropriate headings, names, what they do and references;
Two images each of industrial, domestic and robots used for entertainment
Domestic
Robot Vacume. Cleans the house automatically
Robomower, this robot can:• Mows your lawn completely by itself and returns to its home base to recharge
• Rated slope usage of 15 degrees
• Powered by one lead acid battery
• Automatically covers 16 000 sq.ft
• Weighs 78 lbsIndustrial
This robo is called the KUKA KR 1000 Titan 6- Axis Industrial Robot, it is designed to lift really heavy objexts and to manipulate and change objects like stone, glass steel etc.Industrial robot. This robot is used for heavy lifting and repeats it.Entertainment
The Robosapian is a hihly safisticated robot that you can make dance walk pick things up all for your own enjoyment, and you can program it do other stuff to.
Roboraptor is a robot that is designed to be a dinosaur and it can walk pick things up with its mouth and more. you can control it by pushing buttons and by remote control.Referencehttp://images.google.com.au/imgres?imgurl=http://www.techopolis.com/images/phpthumbnails/74_1_230.jpeg&imgrefurl=http://www.techopolis.com/Techopolis/2005/11/&h=167&w=200&sz=4&hl=en&start=13&um=1&tbnid=VaMqsHSfyw_BgM:&tbnh=87&tbnw=104&prev=/images%3Fq%3Ddinosaur%2Brobot%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=19232 http://images.google.com.au/imgres?imgurl=http://cache.eb.com/eb/image%3Fid%3D100531%26rendTypeId%3D4&imgrefurl=http://www.britannica.com/eb/art-100914/Industrial-robot-at-a-factory&h=358&w=550&sz=27&hl=en&start=22&um=1&tbnid=2FS2Es5z7o5PuM:&tbnh=87&tbnw=133&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dindustrial%2Brobot%26start%3D20%26ndsp%3D20%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN http://images.google.com.au/imgres?imgurl=http://embedded-system.net/embedded-system/images/kuka-kr-1000-titan-6-axis-robot.jpg&imgrefurl=http://embedded-system.net/kuka-kr-1000-titan-6-axis-industrial-robot-the-guinness-book-strongest-robot.html&h=922&w=752&sz=61&hl=en&start=1&um=1&tbnid=mXZWKpEGoxf8TM:&tbnh=147&tbnw=120&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dindustrial%2Brobot%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den http://images.google.com.au/imgres?imgurl=http://img.tradekey.com/images/uploadedimages/offers/4/8/A9740-20060528161148.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.tradekey.com/ks-robot-vacum-cleaner/&h=71&w=100&sz=3&hl=en&start=8&um=1&tbnid=noKyacwXr0tOtM:&tbnh=58&tbnw=82&prev=/images%3Fq%3Drobot%2Bvacume%2Bcleaner%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den http://images.google.com.au/imgres?imgurl=http://reviews.cnet.com/i/gg/hgg06/lux/RoboMower_440.jpg&imgrefurl=http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-12819_7-6656382-1.html&h=330&w=440&sz=49&hl=en&start=1&um=1&tbnid=kI4i0numMRj54M:&tbnh=95&tbnw=127&prev=/images%3Fq%3Drobomower%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den
2. Historical Perspectives of Robotics
The spray painting robot(1942)
a. When was the first actual robot invented and used ?
(Hint: It was designed by Americans Willard Pollard and Harold Roselund for the DeVilbiss Company.)
1938, for spray painting.
b. In 1942, science fiction writer Isaac Asimov created a set of three imaginary Laws of Robotics. What was the name of the book Asimov wrote in 1942 in which he described the Laws of Robotics?
The name of his book was runaround.
c. What is the so-called “Zeroth Law of Robotics? Why is it called the Zeroth Law?
Zeroths law of robotics is “A robot may not injure humanity or, through inaction, allow humanity to come to harm. “
d. Propose one situation where it would be OK for a robot to harm (even kill) a human. Explain why it would be OK in this circumstance. (Hint: Maybe in a hospital?)
It would be ok for a robot to harm a robot, when a man has been put in jail for doing a crime and is to be executed, and the robot is the one that kills the man.
Robots and Robotics
Robots and RoboticsUsing books, the Internet and by interviewing relatives or guardians complete the following:
a. Define ROBOT.
b. Define ROBOTICS.
Robot:
| 1. | a machine that resembles a human and does mechanical, routine tasks on command. |
| 2. | a person who acts and responds in a mechanical, routine manner, usually subject to another’s will; automaton. |
| 3. | any machine or mechanical device that operates automatically with humanlike skill. |
Robotics:
the use of computer-controlled robots to perform manual tasks, esp. on an assembly line. References: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/roboticshttp://dictionary.reference.com/browse/robot
